Frequently
Asked Questions
Does the Adventurous always depart from Sitka and arrive back
to Sitka?
We almost always leave from Sitka but not always in the same direction.
Where we go will depend on several things, most importantly
- "What do you want to do?". We will discuss your many
options and collectively come up with a plan.
What about the food?
Since fresh seafood
is abundant, many guests like their meals centered around the
sea. Some guests may want less seafood. It's up to you. Before
you leave home we will
contact you for menu requests. Are you on a special diet? What
kind of snack foods do you enjoy? Soft drinks and juice preferences
are also requested.
What percentage of guests are return guests?
About 85-90% of our guests book again.
Can we bring fish back home with us when we leave?
Yes, and most people do. Depending on the season,
you may have salmon, halibut and/or other bottom fish, shrimp
or crab that you wish to bring home. We
highly suggest you check with your airline prior to travel
on their specific regulations. As a complimentary service to
our guests we fillet, freeze, and package/box all seafood for
your return trip home.
What is the best way to get to Sitka?
Five flights a day
connect through Seattle International airport to Sitka. We'll
work with you to coordinate your travel itinerary with your
charter.
How do we get from the airport to the Adventurous?
Most of
the guests joining the Adventurous arrive in Sitka via Alaska
Airlines from Seattle the Saturday before. All guests will be met
at the airport in Sitka by an Adventurous crewmember and
transferred to a local hotel. The first night in Sitka will
allow our guests time to rest, dine, and tour Sitka before
their trip starts on Sunday. On Sunday
morning our guests will be met and transferred to the
Adventurous where they will be introduced
to the rest of the crew, tour the Adventurous, then
depart Sitka.
What kind of clothes should we bring?
First,
we recommend only bringing one small suitcase of clothes. The
weather is constantly changing and hard to predict.
Depending on the time of year, it may be cold
and rainy one day then sunny and warm the next - or it
may do both the same day. Layered clothing works well and
deck shoes/boots are a necessity. We have a washer and
dryer on board so you don't need many changes of clothes.
We suggest you bring
a carry on with any medications as there is always the
possibility of lost baggage. Most other items can be replaced
fairly quickly.
What if I am prone to seasickness?
First, it is a good idea to inform us of that. There are some
good over the counter medications as well as a few types of wrist
bands that have proven effective. Most of our cruising will be
on the calm inland waterways so seasickness should not be a problem.
What sets you apart from other charters
in Southeast Alaska?
Our customization
of each cruise makes us very unique. Every trip is different.
Each trip is based on the kinds of things you like to do
(and there are many, many choices).
The service you get is above and beyond what most charters
provide, or are even capable of. Our relaxed atmosphere puts
you in a place that you won't want to leave.
How many guests will the boat accommodate? How many cabins?
The Adventurous will accommodate six guests per trip. There are
three guest cabins - two guests per cabin and two baths.
What is the cost?
$3295 per person with a maximum of 6 guests per cruise.
We do not mix and match guests. The Adventurous will be completely
reserved for you and your friends.
Is there a way to communicate with home?
Yes. We have
a satellite phone onboard for your use since your cell phone
will probably not work in the remote areas we explore.
How do we book a trip?
Call Teri in
our booking/reservations department at 1-800-946-3474. She'll
answer any other questions your might have, and work with you
to arrange
for your party to join us on the Adventurous.
