Southeast Alaska is without a doubt one of the best fishing destinations in the world, but the "best time to fish " is solely dependent on the anticipations of the angler! That said, for me personally late August and September are fishing paradise in Southeast Alaska. Fly & light tackle fishing for pinks, chum and coho salmon coupled with great Halibut fishing makes this time of year "tops" in my book! This week we welcomed back old time friends, John and Diane Petroski, Danny and Betsy Acquavella and Jennifer Jones. Fishing familiar grounds and even some new "hotspots" we spent the week working our way over the top of Baranof Island and then far south to Chatham Strait.
Light tackle and fly fishing for Coho's out of the skiffs we found sensational action in several areas! Although the Halibut were hard to come by at the beginning of the week we finally found some hungry fish and ended up with dynamite Halibut fishing! Diane had the biggest fish of the week at 145# Danny was second at 130# and Jennifer landed a bottom of the ninth 115 pound fish! We also had plenty of action on good size halibut in the 25 to 80 pound range. Betsy (the Betinator) also had her fun this week working over the shrimp on two great shrimp sets! Once again, as each trip goes, it was a week we hated to see come to an end. We look forward to seeing you all back again next year! Thanks to all of you for a great week! Capt. Travis, Jenn and the Moose
