Fishing Report for 5/21/2006 through 5/25/2006 - The Delta Western Team!

The Delta Western team was aboard the Adventurous this week and the King Salmon fishing was wide open! Fishing a “split trip” Returning guest Brian Bogen, Kirk Payne, and Amy Burton welcomed Adventurous first timers Don Groscost, Doug Brown, Scott Henderson, Ryan Macnamara, and Dana Huntly.

Utilizing the Adventurous to full potential, this group of "Alaska Adventurers" had the chance to enjoy the diversity of beautiful Southeast Alaska.

Beginning the trip close to Sitka we found fair fishing, but as the week progressed the weather improved and allowed us to explore remote offshore fisheries. Finding schools of ravenous Kings led to some unbelievable fishing including over a dozen double hook-ups on Kings! Scott had the largest King of the week at 40 pounds, but the overall size of the fish was good with several over 30 pounds.

Flat water in the Gulf of Alaska also allowed us to enjoy some great Halibut fishing landing over 20 of these tasty fish weighing up to 80 pounds! The real highlight of the week was the Steelhead fishing! After a great morning of King fishing on the third day…including a quad hook up….We made the move to a remote and beautiful stream to try our luck at Steelhead fishing. We found the Steelhead thick and willing to bite and after just a couple hours everyone had the chance to catch and release at least one fish. Returning to the stream on the fifth day produced similar results with exceptional Steelhead fishing for everyone! Kirk landed his first Steelhead on a fly and Amy, Dana, Doug, and Scott had their first Steelhead ever!!

Calm seas, too many fish to count, great anchorages, and sensational meals….This was a week to remember….Thanks to Brian and the Delta Western team for a great trip. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
